Kitchen

Project Type: Kitchen Remodel

Location: Cleveland, OH

Timeline: 12 Weeks

Investment: $115,000 – $135,000

When this Cleveland home was originally built in 1900, kitchens were much simpler, requiring less forethought to build and occupying significantly less space. Over the years, various owners of the home attempted to add modern functions but were constrained by the original layout of the rooms. Kitchen appliances ended up located in two separate rooms. This arrangement was highly inefficient, making basic meal preparation and cooking a constant challenge.

Our client’s top priorities were to improve the layout, expand the amount of countertop and storage space, improve organization, and incorporate a mud room area.  It was important for the style of the new space to fit well with the rest of the home.

By undertaking a thorough design and planning effort, we were able to find creative solutions to overcome the layout challenges. Significant structural changes were required, including the removal of a load-bearing wall and the relocation of two kitchen windows and the rear entry door. Reconfiguration of boiler piping was also required. The result is a highly functional contemporary kitchen in a style that blends well with the original character of the home.

Classic raised panel cabinets in an indigo-stained finish offer a beautiful contrast to the stained pine mouldings used throughout the home. They offer ample storage and include organizational features to maximize efficiency. The new kitchen includes modern upgrades such as under-cabinet lighting and an instant hot faucet. The arabesque backsplash tile and exposed brick chimney are eye-catching elements in this timeless design. These traditional elements blend seamlessly with modern touches like stainless steel appliances.

The new mud room serves as a convenient location to store shoes, coats, and bags. The space features a custom maple wood bench, storage cubbies, bead board paneling, additional pantry storage, and a convenient counter space. The re-configured home is more inviting, convenient, and will be enjoyed by the family for years to come.
