Guest Suite

The third floor of this Shaker Heights home was a neglected area in need of modernization. The space received a complete makeover, accommodating a guest suite complete with a bedroom and bathroom. We partnered with the client to design a more open, functional space with ample hidden storage. The wall surrounding the stairwell was replaced with a decorative banister and new stair treads were installed for safe access. We refinished the existing hardwood floors, completed extensive wall restoration and reframed the bathroom wall to accommodate a pocket door. 

The client opted to modernize the bathroom while remaining true to the character of the home. Custom tile work along the walls and on the floor are reflective of this period-specific design. We also installed quartz countertops with double vanity sinks and frameless glass shower doors.

Our design leveraged additional storage that’s recessed in unused attic space. Our carpenters fabricated a custom bookcase for the hallway and a set of drawers in the bedroom. Additional finish carpentry work included the installation of baseboards, casings and chair rail molding. Although we worked within a small footprint, we created the illusion of more space that the client can enjoy for years to come!
